Bradford Health Services in Madison

Bradford Health Services, based in Madison, Ala., offers various programs for drug and alcohol addiction throughout 27 locations in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. The Madison center, which is located 10 miles from the Huntsville International Airport, is one of two residential treatment centers located in Alabama. The facility offers medical detox, plus a short-term adult inpatient program and adolescent care for patients between 13 and 18.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All patients receive a multidisciplinary assessment to determine their need for treatment.

The residential program emphasizes a 12-step model mixed with different types of one-on-one and group therapy. In addition to frequent individual counseling and group and family therapy, the adolescent program immerses young clients in small groups with peers facing similar issues, and provides them with certified educators so they can continue with their school work.

Bradford Health Services’ Madison center is located in a secluded, wooded area near Huntsville, Ala. The facility provides private and semi-private rooms with comfortable common living spaces. There is outdoor space where residents can participate in a number or recreational activities, such as volleyball.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The Madison center earned mostly positive reviews, although there were a few negative comments about staff members' attitudes: for example, alum G.H. told Rehabs.com: “Sometimes the CA's treated me without respect," and A.B.M. said: "Some nurses were extremely rude, some counselors played favorites which was really annoying if you weren't one of them."

But for the most part, alumni praise Madison. Karen told Rehabs.com: “The groups were small so you got individual care."

WHAT STAFF SAY

Staff members had mostly positive things to say. One (current) staff member, D.O., told Rehabs.com that they felt Bradford Health Services has “great clinical support staff.” D.O. also said: “[We] try to keep in contact with our former patients to see how they are doing. Patient care is our top priority.”

However, one (former) staff member, R.B., felt that the facility “needed more training for staff.” R.B. added: "Sink or swim attitude (and) needed more in-services and respect for protocol...(also) hiring staff that understands addictions...some patients needed to stay longer than allowed...(however) even with problems it is still the best around...there is no other facility around here to consider.”
